Battery Monitoring status

We need a Battery Fuel Gauge (battery status monitoring) IC for 3 cells and 4 cell lithium ion or lithium polymer battery pack which monitors the levels of battery pack for our portable device application. IC must monitor the battery pack not individual cells. There will be a micro-controller on my card which will read the status of the battery pack over the I2C/SmBus interface.

We require battery charge level indication mainly.

Temperature monitoring is not mandatory as my Battery charging IC is able to monitor the temperature.

So kindly suggest us suitable IC in low cost for the battery status monitoring.

    Hi Akashay,

    There are several guages which we have that will work great with your application. If individual cell voltages are not needed to be monitored, you can consider using the bq34z100.

     Bear in mind that even though the cell voltages are monitored, it doesn't mean the guage reports the state of charge of each cells. It measures the cell voltages, current  and temperature and these are input variables in TI's patented impedance track algorithm which now reports the state of charge of the entire pack. That being said, you could also consider using the bq40z50. Some of our legacy 2s-4s gauges will also work for your application.
