BQ78350 charge disable register

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350

Hi,

We are trying to set up the protection on the BQ78350 to monitor/control battery charging.

In the Technical Reference Manual SLUUAN7 Rev. A section 5.5, the conditions to disable charging are confusing.

How can the UTC (under temperature during charge) and OTC (over temperature during charge) be set at the same time?

Second, if any of these two bits are set, according to the documentation, charging is disabled through the OperationStatus()[XCHG] bit.

Is this a typo or is my understanding incorrect?

Thanks

  • UTC and OTC are independent settings, so they could be set to overlap.  The recovery threshold is also a separate. You would not want to do this of course.

For these, charging disables through the Charging voltage and charging current for smart chargers which will read the values, of if desired set the FET options to turn off the charge FET (with the XCHG) by setting the FET Options CHGIN and CHGSU bits.

I have asked the section be clarified in a future revision.
