stacking BQ76940 + BQ78350 combo

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76940, BQ78350

I am working on an automotive EV BMS, and I really like some of the BQ76940 specs working in combo with BQ78350 .

The BMS I would like to design would have 30 x 100AH, in an 1P30S configuration.

I want to ask you about to how to stack 2 BQ76940+BQ78350 combos ( each one managing 15 cells), and interconnect them to a host controller by an isolated SMBus.

  • Do realize that the bq76940 was not designed to be an automotive device.

To stack the IC's subsystems I agree you would want to use isolated communication.  The bq78350 allows selection of the address.  For FET control if using FETs you will likely want to use some level shifter to bring the signals to the same reference and design an appropriate gate drive circuit.
