Hello I am planning on  using the LM3481 as the  primary side controller for a 25W flyback converter. Is it possible to use a TL431 and Optocoupler to implement the feedback? Because this feedback method already does compensation I noticed that in this design by TI the feedback pin  is grounded and the optocoupled return line is connected directly to the compensation pin, bypassing the error amplifier. (picture attached).

Perhaps you could recommend a more suitable low cost, low component primary side controller. I was also looking at the UC3843

Thanks!

  • Hi Eric,

You may want to look at the UCC287xx range of devices which are primary side regulated controllers which eliminate the TL431 and opto coupler from the design to reduce cost.

Or the LM5023 which is a quasi resonant controller which will offer better efficiency compared to the older controllers.
