TPS92411 on normal FR4 PCB?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92411, TPS92410

Hi there,

I dont have big experience with the TPS92411 but a customer is wondering if the part is suitable to be used on normal FR4 PCB because of the power dissipation. He tried to realize the solution discrete and the mosfets were getting too hot. This is what you declare depending on the package.

•SOT23-5  (up to 35W applications)
•PSOP-8   (up to 70W applications)
many thanks and best regards,
Matteo
  • HI Matteo,

Our TPS92410 EVM is on FR4. SO if you do this, you may want to have a heat sink on the back side of the board.

    Regards,

  • I have been working with the TPS92411 IC (SOT23-5). Based on my 25W prototype, I can tell you that the TPS92411 behave smoothly, barely hot at ~80% of the maximum power dissipation, but the MOSFET from the constant current regulator gets really hot, design on this section must be considered to dissipate a great amount of heat. By the way my prototype is implemented on RF-4.
