LM5085 as floating pre-regulator?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5085

I was wondering if LM5085 can be used as floating pre-regulator for adjustable linear regulator stage 0-30V, 5A? I intend to use it with fixed input from rectified transformer (35-38V), where it would maintain output voltage around 3 volts higher than linear regulator stage output, in order to keep power dissipation in check. Can LM5085 fulfill this role? If not, is there some buck controller that can?

Thanks in advance.
