bq24193 single LiPo battery vs 4 parallel 18650 cells

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24193

Hello,

Right now we are using bq24193 with single LiPo battery and we would like

to replace it with 4 parallel cells and charge them with 4.5A. Is there any constrains

or possible issues that may happen? Should the configuration software be changed as well?

Best Regards,

Roman

  • Roman,

The bq24193 is capable of charging multiple cells in parallel at a rate of up to 4.5A.  In your software you will need to properly configure the bq24193 with the desired values for your application such as charge current and regulation voltage.

    Thanks!

  • Hello Rachel,

    Thank you for the answers!

How about minimal voltage in SYS output? In the spec is stated that is 3.5V

but this can go as low as 2.5 when charger is operating only on nearly discharger batteries.

    is that correct?

If yes what is your suggestion for keeping SYS voltage higher?

    Regards,

    Roman

  • Roman,

SYSMIN voltage is adjustable via Reg01 [1:3], but you are correct that under battery only operation that VSYS will track VBAT down until the battery hits the battery depletion threshold.  You can add an additional power stage (buck / boost regulator) after the BQ2419x to provide regulated voltage to your system.

    Thanks,

    Rachel
