Hi, I changed. the default coil of my EVB, because I need a smaller one.

I tried 2 coils:

  1. VISHAY IWAS-3827EC-50  (26.65 x 38.10mm) and the EVB worked, but after few seconds, the coil temperature encreased very much and quickly I turned off.
  2. Rx coil, TDK WR483265-15F5-G, after few seconds the EVB stop working, with the power led ON and all Others OFF. Could any one help me, to fix the problem?

    Hello Gianluca

    The bq500210EVM-689 is our 19V input TX, WPC TX type A1 or A10.  The coil should have an inductance in the range of 24uH.  Also low DCR is desirable.

    TX is a resonant converter topology and even with no load on the RX the circulating current in coil and resonant capacitors is high.  This circulating current and a high DCR in the coil will result in coil heating.

    The TX coil and resonant capacitors are tuned for 100kHz, L=24uH and 100nF.

    Resonant capacitors C15 & C13, 2 X .047uF or 100nF.

    VISHAY IWAS-3827EC-50  ---- RX coil, DCR 183m ohm, L 10.7 uh

    TDK WR483265-15F5-G --- RX coil, DCR 200m ohm, L 13.3 uh

     

    I do not have a smaller coil for the bq500210.
