USB CHARGING CONTROLLER

Guru 13485 points

What is our recommendations for a USB charger, to charge  external device, (like mobile phone)with over load protected?

Need to  protect on the 5v that will feed out ,from over load. Could be , that an automotive grade will be needed.

Is a USB Dedicated Charging Port Controller, is the solution?

Is the TPS2513 or TPS2543 is the right device?

  • Please note that  the USB is use for data also Not only for charger

Do the TPS2513 is not make collision with the data D- & D+,

     NEED URGENT REPLY/FEEDBACK!!!!

  • Hi Eli,

For automotive charging with high speed D+/D- connection to the host, use TPS2543Q1 or TPS2546Q1. I'd recommend the TPS2546Q1 as it will support more newer portable devices.

  • I would like to counsel with you about the CDP, SDP,……. MODE

Those mode are control by D+ D-

It not make collision with the data that run on  D+ D-?

The application is charge the smartphone

And on same time to run data on the USB

  • The negotiation begins upon first phone plug in on D+/D- and after that is done the controller configures the DP_OUT -> DP_IN and DM_OUT-DM_IN as analog switch only to pass through the USB data (in CDP and SDP modes). So, there is no interference with the USB data.

  • Why need the negotiation to charge?

  • Hi eli,

SDP is data only port, CDP is charging+data communication port, DCP is charging only port.

Since you need data communication as well, CDP mode is recommonded.

Per Battery Charging 1.2 Standrad, device needs to know whether the USB port is charging and/or data capable, that's why hand-shaking is needed via D+ & D-. Please refer to Page 16 'Charging Downstream Port(CDP)' of TPS2546-Q1 datasheet for detail description.

Like Eric said, the switch on the data lines are analog switches, they will not affect the data integrity.

Would you mind share what's your application?
