ucc28070 as a current source

I want to use ucc28070 for litium ion battery charger. I don't know if there is a way that I can change the pfc output voltage on the fly. I thought that I can change the output voltage with get a feedback from current and apply a voltage on pin vsense but data sheet says the vsense and vinac should have same attenuation. is there any other way to change the voltage. can I use the ss pin for this purpose.

  • The UCC28070 is unsuitable for this application. You can use the UCC28070 as a front end pfc stage followed by a second power stage converter that converts the pfc output to the voltage and power required by your design. For safety reason you will most likely need and isolated converter for the second power stage.

  • thanks john, I appriciate your help. there is an application note an-8021 for fairchild chip fan9612. it uses SS pin for implementing variable output voltage for control chip. is there any reason that i can not use samething for TI chip. 

    right now there is another single stage boost charger for high voltage litium ion battery and i have a small space available in our product for the charger. i am agree with you about isolation but these chargers could pass UL without

    isolation. ucc28070  has so many good feature and i prefer use it if it's possible.
