bq24650 Lead Acid battery charger

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24650

Hello,

I am using bq24650 as a lead acid battery charger. I will be using 12V/42Ah battery. If the MPPT voltage is less than 1.2V what will be the status of the STAT1 and STAT2 pin.

If its a cloudy day and MPPT is varying say 1.2V and 1.1V, what will be the status of the STAT pins. Will the charger states charging the battery as soon as the MPPT is above 1.2V?

Thanks & Regards,

Sreekanth

  • Sreekanth,

The datasheet states (top paragraph of page 13) that if MPPSET set is <1.2V, then STAT1 pin is low and STAT2 pin is high (indicating that charging is in progress). However, since MPPSET is <1.2V, the charge current will be zero.

So if the voltage on MPPSET varies between 1.1 and 1.2V, then the above statement about STAT1/STAT2 and the charging current is valid.
