Why would a bq2060_E207 exhibit flashing LED's?

The data sheet makes no mention of this.

3 out of four LED's light up, to indicate the 67% charge level. But they are flashing at about 4 times per second. The voltage ouput looks OK.

What undocumented feature might I be experiencing?

  • Michael,

The LED display will blink at a 4Hz rate if RemainingCapacity is less than the RemainingCapacityAlarm threshold.  This action is described in the data sheet in the paragraph "Display Modes".  For 3 LEDs to blink, it would indicate that the RCA value is set rather high.  This value can be written by the host, so it may not be set at the initial value that is programmed in EEPROM.

  • Thank you very much, Bill. When I had searched the TI data sheet, I searched for the word "flash". I failed to search for the work "blink". Upon doing THAT search, I see the entry, as you said. Sorry to have missed that.

Somehow, I have a bad pack, here, where the RCA register was sett to all-F's, thus making it 65535. So, three LEDs flash, even though the capacity os 60%, and the voltage is strong, about 11.49V.

I hope to find out how my RCA register got dinged in the field.

Finally, if you are the legendary Mr. Jackson, I tip my hat to you.
