Charge finish information to the transmitter side

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00318, BQ51003, BQ25100, BQ500212A, BQ25101

Hi,

If we use a combination of TIDA-00318 (bq51003 bq25100 Li-Ion charge) receiver and bq500212A transmitter, is it possible to get information charge finish to the transmitter side? We have a uC on the receiver side if the charger doesn’t have a charge finish indication.

  • Geir,

The bq51003 can send a charge termination signal when EN1 and EN2 are pulled high. The TIDA-00318 has both pins tied low so it is not directly applicable for this board.

The bq25100 does not have a direct termination signal. However, monitoring the voltage level on the ISET will give an indication for when the device goes from taper to charge termination.

The bq25101 is a spin of the bq25100 that replaces the PRE-TERM pin with a CHG/ pin. The CHG/ pin will give you the correct response. It is an open drain pin that goes low when the charge is active and high impedance when termination occurs (needs a pull-up). The only "trick" is to keep the EN1/EN2 pins low until the charge begins. This will, of course, require a board slightly different than the TIDA-00318 that does not pull the EN1/EN2 pins directly to ground.

Let me know if this is helpful.

  • Hi Dick,
Thank you very much for the information. It was the information that I needed to evaluat circuit solution.

    Best regards
