Bq29700 not resetting after placed on charger

Our design is using the BQ29700 as a protection IC for single cell LIPoly. The issue we are having is once the battery discharges below the

discharge threshold even when the device is returned to the charger, the protection circuit will not reset itself. The design is sealed thus it is impossible

to short VSS to board ground. Additionally, we noticed that the COUT and DOUT do not fully cutoff. This leaves a nominal voltage on the 3.7V rail

which means we have erroneous voltages being applied to our circuit . This is impacting our processors reset pin.

Thanks,

John

  • Do you have a schematic of your bq29700 design? The device should recover and drive DOUT high when V- is -0.7V with respect to VSS. This will happen as long as a charge current is flowing as this will cause a voltage drop on the body diode of the DSG FET. Can you verify whether the charger is providing a charge current?
