BQ24610 MOSFWT choice

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24610

Hi There

My name is Simon. I am building a charger circuit using BQ24610 IC. I am not sure if i can use regular MOSFET (ZVN2110A) for the switching purpose. The data sheet says to use a power MOSFET (SI7617DN), but i am not sure if it is ok to use a regular MOSFET. I am doing circuit prototyping so i want to be sure before testing it. Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

  • Simon,

The ZVN2110A has a Rdson of 4Ohms, which is not ideal for high current switch converters such as the bq24610. You will want to use a MOSFET that has an Rdson in the mOhm range (maybe <100mOhms, depending upon your current settings). Using ZVN2110A will result in poor converter efficiency, and it will result in your prototype heating up.
