usb detection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2511, TPS2514A, TPS25200

So I designed a USB charging port that needs auto detection for all/most of the newest devices that are 5V...I have tested the TPS2511 and it yields all results except 2.4A mode on an IPAD Air...If I am looking to charge all the devices in full charging mode, should I useTPS2514A or is there a better option? and does the TPS2514A detect all other apple configurations, shorted data wires and Chinese standard for full charging capabilities?

  • Jason,

Yes, to support iPad Air 2.4A charging, you can use TPS2514A, which can support all devices supported by TPS2511 while increase the iPad charging spec from 2.1A spec to 2.4A spec.

As TPS2511 is power switch integrated part, while TPS2514A doesn't integrated it, I sugguest you to add TPS25200 with TPS2514A.

TPS25200 is power switch which also has input OVP function and output clamping function. It will protect iPad from failure system power, for example, of buck DC/DC is open loop, TPS25200 will protect iPad from high voltage.
