BQ40z50 Datasheet Operating Conditions

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50, BQ20Z65

The BQ40z50 Datasheet was apparently revised in Dec 2014. The revision changes list the addition of various tables but they do no mention the changes to the recommended operating conditions table.

The original stated a functional temperature of –40 to 110°C. The revised version has removed this.

This ought to be listed in the revision history, but more importantly, what is the functional temperature of the device? We would like to use this in a device that would see temperature above 85C. With some of your other devices (i.e. BQ20z65_R1), we have managed to do this up to the functional temperature, provided the device is in shutdown mode. If we can't use this device at all above 85C, it is not suitable for our application and, unfortunately, none of the other devices seem to be either (except the NRND ones!)

Can someone clarify this for me?

Thanks

  • David,

The development team did not intentionally remove the functional operating temperature range from abs max table in the new datasheet. It is not included in that table as part of TI's new datasheet standard. The device will not get damaged when operating at 110C, but the recommended operating temperature range is -40C to 85C in both datasheets. That means that the device is only guaranteed to meet the electrical specifications over that temperature range.
