Sense resistor sharing for LM5069

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5069

Hi

We have a design based on LM5069 as above.

The power limit is calculated and derated based on the MOSFET datasheet.

Please suggest whether this configuration will work or not.

  • Hi Sagar,

Sorry for the delayed response, it took us a while to find this thread as this device is considered part of the "Power Interface" forum. It will move it appropriately.

To answer your question, sharing the sense resistor like this can affect what you are trying to achieve. What is your application (input voltage range, current, total output capacitance). Most applications can get by with one controller in there system driving multiple MOSFETs if additional power is needed.

If the current gets too high, both controllers will try to regulate, but not necessarily at the same time. Thus if they are driving separate loads, the loads will be unbalanced. For example, if we call it controller 1) and 2)... if 1) draws too much current on its load, 2) may begin regulating current first, lowering its gate voltage and reducing the of of 2). Then the current for 1) may continue to rise while 2) continues to decrease.

To help your design, we have the LM5069 Design Calculator tool. It can be downloaded at the bottom of the "Tools & Software" tab of the product page:
