Reverse common source MOSFETs?

For the bq24616 IC, can we reverse the MOSFETs have their drains connected (due to an error made in board routing), and still make it work? Would this introduce anything undesirable at all?

The common source approach eliminates the need for two diodes - one diode for negative voltage input, and another diode to provide a path from battery to VCC during battery operation. If the P-FETs were in common drain configuration, then you would add have to add these two extra diodes for the same functionality.
