TPS27081A Rise Time Limtations?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS27081A, TPS22967

Hello

I am working with a super capacitor charging circuit that needs to bring a 0.5F load up over the course of 500ms.

Looking over the information on the datasheet there does not appear to be any limiting factor on such a long rise time but all of the examples are on the single millisecond range.

Thank you for your help.

  • Hi Ryan,

There is no maximum rise time for the TPS27081A.  However, this configuration will also result in a long turn off time.

If this is an issue, you can consider the TPS22967 which sets rise time through a single external capacitor.  Also, a discharge resistance is connected to the load when the switch is disabled to reduce turn off time.

    Regards,

    Adam

  • Hello Adam,

    Thank you for the information.

I will look to see if the extended turn off time of the TPS27081 will create any problems.

Unfortunately the TPS22967 will might not work since my supply goes all the way down to 1.6V. I will have to look to see if I can pull a bias voltage from some other point in my circuit.

    Thank you for your help.
