TPS40210 Switch pro values

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS40210EVM, TPS40210

Hi,

Can some one help me understand why the when I design the evaluation board spec TPS402101EVM with switch pro the values are different from those of actual TPS40210EVM board. For example the inductor used in EVM board is 10uH whereas that suggested in switch pro design is 1uH.

IF I follow the datasheet the values comes different from the  switchpro design, do I need to make any adittional consideration than given in the datasheet for calculating especially for inductor.

  • For any single set of electrical requirements, there are many ways to design a working power supply.  Either design will work.

  • Sunil,

There was an error introduced into the inductor selection process for the TPS40210 model in Switcher Pro.  This will be corrected in the next release of Switcher Pro.

In the mean time, I recommend using the Inductor equation from the TPS40210 datasheet and replacing the Switcher Pro selected inductor.  Switcher Pro should still accurately select the remaining components.

In addition, I would recommend taking the time to enter values into the "Advanced Inputs" tab of the Switcher Pro designer and carefully consider each of the inputs to your design.  Among others, the soft-start time defaults to 3ms, which can be very fast for a high output voltage boost converter.
