BQ78350 Charge Termination

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78350

I have developed a new board with the bq78350/76920 to 76940.

Now i try to set the parameters so, that the BMS switch the chargingcurrent of, when the battery is full.

I have set the Tapercurrent to 250mA, the Term Voltage to 75mV and the fast charging voltage is set to 4050mV.

At the end of charging the the device stops the charging (CHG-Fet switch of) for about 1500ms and starts charging again for about 250ms.

What can I change, that the charging stops for longer time, or the cellvoltage falls to 4050mV?

For the adjustments I use the BQ78350EVM with a battery 10S1P.

Many thanks and best regards

Karl

  • Hi Karl,

Its difficult to predict what is causing this without complete information regarding your configuration, and also being able to examine a log of the event to analyze the various measurements and flags. If you can send us your exported .gg.csv file and a log of the event, we will look into it.

The first thing to check is whether you have FETOption[CHGFET] = 1. This tells the gauge to turn off the Chg FET at a valid charge taper termination. If this is not set, then is it possible that you experienced some kind of safety violation which caused the brief turn-off action? You can check the SafetyStatus register to look for any possible faults.

If CHGFET is set, then please check the Clear%RSOCThresholds for both FC and TC. These can be found in the fuel gauging section of data memory. Normally, these should be set to around 95%. That is the level that would normally allow the CHG FET to be re-enabled.
