TPS61201 - Quiescent current

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61201, TPS61201EVM-179, TPS61200

Hello,

I have a question about the Quiescent current(Iq) of TPS61201.

Iq is written with the data-sheet(SLVS577E) as follows.

Vin:1μA(typ)  Vout:50μA(typ)

(Io=0mA, Ven=Vin=1.2V, Vout=3.3V, Vaux=3.3V, PS=0)

However, it becomes 290μA when I measure a consumption current of VIN using TPS61201EVM-179 with same condition.

(JP1 is VBAT, JP2 is GND, VOUT is open(The voltage is 3.319V), Vin=Ven=1.2V)

Is the specification of Iq on the data-sheet for TPS61200?

If so, please tell me the specifications of Iq of TPS61201.

In addition,

When VBAT is 2.1V, it is 130μA.

When JP2 is VBAT, it is 16.76mA(@VBAT=1.2V).

When JP1 is GND, it is 2μA(@VBAT=1.2V).

Regards,

Daisuke

  • Hi Daisuke,

The measurement result of 290uA doen't refer to the Iq. It should be no load current consumption.

When measuring Iq, please get the current at P1, not P2 (as shown below). Besides, please add an external voltage a little higher than the target output voltage at Vout, so that converter will not switch at this condition. In this way, you can get Iq.

  • Hello Gene,

    Thank you for your reply.

Could you please teach me the reason of the following sentence?

"please add an external voltage a little higher than the target output voltage at Vout,"

    Best regards,

    Daisuke

  • Hi Daisuke,

Even though there is no load at Vout, converter will still have a pulse of switching at intervals (so called power save mode operation). When measuring Iq, we should exclude the power consumption of this switching. Adding a little higher voltage than target Vout can ensure there is no switching.
