BQEASY and NCR18650

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50, BQ27541

I am going through the setup phase in BQEASY with a 27541 and was wondering how to determine what to enter for taper current? We are using a pack consisting of 3 groups of 6 cells in parallel to make 12 Volts. The batteries are NCR18650. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I've looked through the forums and haven't found an answer yet. Should I leave the taper current at the default 100 mils?

Thanks

  • Generally, you will want to set the gauge taper current to be about 20% higher than the charger taper current. This will allow the gauge to detect taper and should account for charger tolerance. A common taper setting is usually C/20. As for gauge selection, I would recommend the bq40z50 for a multi-cell pack. The bq27541 is designed for a single series cell pack, meaning ~4.2V fully charged.
