BQ500212AEVM-550 compatibility question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ500212AEVM-550, BQ500212A, BQ500215, BQ51025, BQ51221, BQ51013B, BQ51003, BQ51021

Hi all,

I intend to construct a wireless chargher, so I am planning to buy the BQ500212AEVM-550, which appears to be a evaluation trnasmitter board.

However I would like to mess around with receiver, so I was planning to buy the "BQ51021YFPT" and "BQ51025YFPT". My question is whether or not the "BQ51021YFPT" and "BQ51025YFPT" are compatible with the BQ500212AEVM-550 (they support the WPC 1.1 standard )

Furthermore, I am  planning to buy the "BQ51221EVM-520" instead of the "bq51013bEVM"  receiver (the bq51013xEVM is intended to be used with the Q500212AEVM-550)
, so I would like to know whether or not the above are compatible with the Q500212AEVM-550.

Thnx a lot

  • All the receivers are compatible with the bq500212A, they are interoperable though the WPC standard.
bq51025 RX is a 10W RX but only when used with the bq500215 TX. With 212A TX only 5W.
bq51221 RX is dual mode WPC and PMA. With 212A only WPC.
The above two do not help you get started.
The bq51013B is a good RX to start evaluation with.
  • Dear Bill, thnx you very much for the reply. However could you explain to what extend the bq51xxx are not appropriate to get started while the bq51013b is? What I mean is that non of them is an evaluation board (or do you mean the bq51013bEVM).
  • A good basic RX to start with the bq51013B, EVM is available at the TI Store. Also the 013B comes in a QFN version which is easier for a lot of customers to work with. The ball grid array version is challenging to work with unless you have the right tools. This will help if you want to build your own RX board.

If you want to evaluate other bqTESLA RX:
1.) Dual mode WPC / PMA use the bq51221
    2.) 5W / 10W use the bq51025
    3.) Direct battery charging use the bq51050 / 51
4.) Low Power Receiver applications bq51003
5.) Improved thermal and adjustable output bq51021
