LM2596 surface mount recommended Layout

Hi The data sheet shows a through hole recommended layout. Is there a recomended layout for the SMD version for a two sided PCB?

Hi Jerry,

Happy to help! The recommended through hole layout also applies to the SMD version for a two sided PCB. Since the only difference is the termination and not the pin out of the IC itself.

Possibly the only revision necessary might be for certain extra large components that have smaller sizes thanks to SMD.

Hi Jerry,

In WEBENCH, you can use the export feature to download a SMD version of the board layout into 5 different native CAD tool formats.

Thank You Anston,
My concern was that the SMD version package lies on the board with a heat sink pad, so parts can't be put on both sides of the pins as can be done with the through hole part where the part is standing up in the air.

I didnt realize Webench shows layouts. I'm using Eagle, so I'll check it out.
