bq34z110 : X10 mode setting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z110, BQ34Z100-G1

Hello!

I want to set the bq34z110 using X10mode.

But I can not understand exactly x10mode.

I test and that specifications are as follows:

1) Battery : 12V/55AH 1EA

2) Load : about 1A resistor 1EA

When X10 mode and set to "Design Energy Scale" to "10", all in DataFlash "mA, mAh, mW and mWh unit" do I need to set divided by "10"?

  • Setting the X10 mode bit does not affect anything in the gauge. It is just a bit to let the user know that the current and capacity have been scaled. To scale the gauge, you must divide all of the current and capacity parameters in the data flash by the scale factor. This can be 2, 3, 4 10 or any number that you want. You then have to scale the current by the same factor then you calibrate the gauge. For instance, if you scaled by 10x, then you could use a -2000mA current to calibrate the current and enter -200mA in the actual current space. All reported current and capacity data would then need to be scaled up by 10x to get to real value. The Design Energy Scale only affects energy parameters, so the units will be changed to cWh. You would enter the data in cWh as well.

  • I understand it is as follows:
Design step1~step5 : Set by dividing the value of all the "current and capacitive in Dataflash" to "10".
step7 : Pack Current Calibration - Devide the "Enter actual current" to "10".

    Is the above information correct?
  • Yes, that is correct. Also, I have not mentioned it, but you should consider switching over to the bq34z100-G1 device. It was released in January and it supports PbA cells as well. It also has some new features to improve gauging performance. The bq34z110 will moved to NRND status soon.
  • Thank you!
Do I have to change that to "bq34z110 device" to "bq34z100-G1 device" of bq34z110EVM available?
  • Yes, you can update the firmware on the EVM to the new device. I will send you some information off line.
  • I would have to order samples and replace the device.
    Thank you!
    Best regards.
