Current saturation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS61220

Hi,

I making a design with TPS61220 and trying to choose an inductor. My maximum current consumption will be 20mA, Vout = 6V, Vin = 2..3V. Is that ok if I'll install inductor with current rating = 400mA and current saturation = 80 mA? Will I lose some efficiency? In datasheet there is 1.4 A inductor.

Thanks

  • i suggest select a inductor with saturation current higher than 400mA. the inductor current could reach 400mA during startup. and in normal operating, the peak current could be 200mA as shown in Fig23 of datasheet.

    thanks

Well, I'll take a risk and put an inductor with current saturation = 300mA. Because this converter is not a main power supply it only provides higher voltage for buzzer and maximum consumption will be 20mA, also footprint is important here. So, If I will get some bad results I'll make a note here later, if not, well, everything was fine then.

    Cheers
