LM25066/about operating Ratings VIN,Vout

Hi ,

Customer is trying to use LM25066 in condition of VIN = 17V.
However,Vin sometimes increases to 18V.
May I use it for protection at 18V?
I think that the broken not for absolute maximum rating = 24V.

Please give me some advice.

    If the rail itself is 17V typical and 18V max, would the LM5066 be more suited for his application?

    Thank you for your support.
    Customer wants to use LM25066, if possible.
    Because,LM5066 has a larger size and higher price than LM25066.

    LM25066 Can be used in 18V the OVLO setting?

  • Hi Yusuke,

     

    The LM25066 is really meant to be used for 12V rail applications.

     

    If the rail is expected to be at 17V or 18V, then unfortunately the LM25066 will not work correctly.

     

    Though the IC may not be damaged at 18V, there is an internal zener diode between GATE and GND (see Block Diagram on Page 13).

    This zener diode is 18.8V typical, 17V-20.3V min and max (see Vgate spec, under "GATE CONTROL" on page 5).

     

    Because of these reasons, the gate voltage cannot go above 17V-18V and provide gate drive for the external MOSFET to be saturated. Thus a higher voltage device such as the LM5066 would be recommended for this operating voltage.

     

    If PMBus capability is not needed, then LM5069 would be a good choice.

  • Also consider the LM5066I and TPS2482 for this design. They are great choices as well and are both released.
