TPS61220 quiescent current

Hi all

My customer measured the TPS61220 quiescent current, both in their proto and the

EVM. They find the average current is 25uA (1.2V => 3.3V) instead of the 5.5uA specified in

the Datasheet .

How do we measure the quiescent current of this device ?

Best regards

Ueli

  • From another post on this topic: "Quiescent current is the current required to power the internal circuitry of the IC.  This current is measured in a non-switching condition.  Please note that quiescent current is not the same as no-load current.  With no load, the IC continues to switch, which takes energy to charge and discharge the power FET gate capacitances.  This increases the no-load current to a value higher than the quiescent current."

To measure Iq, the FB voltage should be externally raised above the internal reference to stop the device's switching.  For a boost converter, Iq comes from Vin and Vout, as the IC draws current from each of those nets.
