TPS65950 battery current sense?

It is difficult to accurately predict the current draw of the OMAP and peripherals in our system, they will vary greatly. Since the BCI shares the battery charge current with the system, wouldn't it make sense to run the system from the FET side of the current sense resistor and therefore have accurate control over battery charge current?

This isn’t recommended. The internal loops/comparators are tested and validated with what schematics we recommend.

Thanks Ankit, I guess the days are long gone where a datasheet had enough details that the engineer could design a thing and understand how it worked.

Hi Perry,

Did you resolve this issue?

I also agree that the system power looks like it should be derived from the FET side of the sense resistor. I cannot see how the battery current is supposed to be monitored on our EVM board.

When the EVM is under battery power the 5V input does not charge the battery.

Any clues would be appreciated!
