Sorry that the documentation is not clear on this point.The LCD is activated all the time during operation except shutdown. Therefore the picture above is fundamentally wrong because it shows a display push button that won't do anything in LCD mode. You can leave that pin not connected, or pull up to 3.3V if you prefer.

No, I said you can leave the DISP (aka DSPL) pin open. The REG33 pin must have the capacitor.
