buck PFC 300-350W

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28019A, UCC29910A, UCC29900, UCC28019

HI,

I'm looking for a buck PFC controller in the range 275W to 350W.

Input: ~230V AC

output: 48V

I know that boost will be a better option but my application is very cost sensitive and trying to push buck pfc just to meet the standards.

Can you suggest a best option?

I'm looking at ucc28019A and also UCC29910A.  Is it feasible?

  • Hello Samskriti
The UC29910A is specifically designed to control a buck PFC stage. It is important to note that the output voltage range of the UCC29910A is very limited, essentially it is an 84Vout device with only a small adjustment range. It will not be able to produce 48V directly. For that you could use a 84V to 48V down converter controlled by the UCC29900 for example. Note that in the app notes the output is referenced to the High side of the rectified line. This is not a problem if you have a second isolation stage (UCC29900 for example was specifically designed for this purpose). If you need a more conventional low side referenced output then the MOSFET switch will have to go in the high side of the input line - this is not a problem, but you will need a high side driver IC for the MOSFET and a current sensing transformer in the MOSFET drain.

The UCC28019A is a Boost PFC controller, it could be made work too but I'd think you would have a harder task.

What is the PF you are trying to achieve.

  • Hello!

My main intention is to reduce harmonics.

Iif I use the UCC28019A, what are the changes required?

I used the pspice transient file given on the site for UCC28019, and tried the "inverted buck configuration". I used the same average switch model used in boostccm block with the terminals interchanged.

I suppose i should change the current sensing and the compensation circuits. Could you suggest me on this?
