LP38798 reverse current protection?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LP38798

Does LP38798 have any reverse current protection? If 3.3V is applied to Vout and 0V to Vin, will the device be damaged or a large current flow?

  • Unknown, it was not a design requirement, and there is no discussion in the datasheet or any internal documentation that I can find.

I will need to test an EVM on the bench to see how it behaves. It will take at least 24 hours to get an EVM, then set it up and test.

  • LP38798 does NOT have reverse current protection.
With Vin=0V (Gnd) and Ven= 0V (Gnd), reverse breakdown starts when Vout is approx 0.8V.
    At Vout= 0.7V, I measured about 58 micro-amps (uA).
At Vout= 0.8V, I measured 60 milli-amps (mA) and climbing. I stopped at this point.
