bq34z100-g1 seperate CHG-DSG lines

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ34Z100-G1, BQ77910A, BQ34Z100

dear all,

we are now evaluating BQ34Z100-G1 to be our multicell gauge solution.

it looks like a very modulare solution except one issue:

some of the protection circuit solutions works better with seperated CHG + DSG path (especialy the BQ77910A).

is there an application note that can solve this issue?

perhaps placing the sense resistor on the high side (main plus)?

best regards,

Ran Aloni

  • Ran,

The bq34z100-G1 does not offer protection, only gauging. You can use it with the bq77910A to add protection, although the two devices do not communicate with with one another. We do not have an applications report integrating the two devices into a gauging / protection solution.

  • Dear Tom,

many thanks for your prompt answer.

my question was referring to integration of the BQ34Z100 with such protection circuits that separated DSG and CHG outputs.

we want to use the BQ34Z100 circuit to integrate with already finished battery packs with their existing Pack +, Pack- CHG, Pack- DSG wire out.

possible solutions I want to run by you:

    1. connect the gauge circuit before the protection circuit with a resettable fuse for short-circuit protection.
(disadvantaged by safety and the need to change the battery setup).
    2. use the sense resistor on the plus side instead of the minus which is divided to CHG and DSG paths.

    regards,

    Ran

  • Ran,
The device can be patched into an existing design as you described, but it will not support a high-side sense resistor.
