EV2300 Coming up as Unknown Device in Windows 7(64)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: EV2400, BQSTUDIO

I have had this EV2300 working for me a month ago but for some reason (windows update maybe). When I connect the EV2300 to my PC it comes up as an unknown device and stops working. I have installed the drivers from "e2e.ti.com/.../128220.aspx" . And windows says the drivers are up to date but it still won't work. When I bring up Battery Studio it doesn't read anything back from my device.

  • Hi Craig,

I had a similar situation on a former PC where the unofficial 64-bit drivers for EV2300 were working for me for a long while, but then one day after installing something it never worked again.  Windows said it was loading a driver for the EV2300, but I had wiped every trace and shadow copy I could find and tried reinstalling the drivers but I could never get Windows to point to the real driver.  For that PC the only solution I had was to use EV2400.  Since then I've got a new PC and the unofficial EV2300 drivers are working on it.  I know that's not much condolence, but the best solution is to move to EV2400.  Re-installing Windows or buying a new PC (as fun as they sound) won't even be guaranteed since the 64-bit drivers for EV2300 are "unofficial" for this very reason.  The venerable EV2300 box just wasn't architected for 64-bit systems and unfortunately we haven't found a reliable workaround.  It seems to work for 99.9% of the users, but it's not fun to be the 0.1%.

On that note, should you get an EV2400, be sure to upgrade to the latest FW inside by downloading, installing, and running the upgrade tool from the EV2400 tool folder on ti.com.  As of this posting, the latest EV2400 FW version is 0.18.  You can check it by looking in the dashboard of bqStudio.
