Could I use bq24610 to charge Lead-Acid battery?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24610, BQ24650

I think the Li and Lead acid battery should have similar charge method, the difference is the maxim current and maxim voltage.

So, if the voltage and current could be covered, the Li charge chip should be also able to charge Lead acid.

Then, bq24610 should be able to charge lead acid 12V battery.

Am I right?

But, the bq24610 datasheet doesn't mentioned it could be used to charge lead-acid battery.I want to confirm it , ;-)

  • Any expert help answer this question?

I have found some info on this forum , said could refer to  . "http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva437a/slva437a.pdf"

Does the bq24610 could be modified like that also?

    Appreciate your repsonse

  • Yes, the bq24610 can be modified similarly to the bq24650 as shown in the SLVA437A app note. Please follow the app note you found to configure the device to charge lead acid batteries optimally (simply following the configuration in the datasheet will charge the lead acid battery, but mostly likely won't charge to it's full capacity). Note that one of the major differences in functionality between the bq24610 and bq24650 is the MPPSET. MPPSET does not exist in bq24610.
