bq24251 taper current setting

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24251

Please let me know about bq24251 taper current setting.

When the device is not in Host mode, I think taper current becomes 10% of charge current set by external resistor. When device receives I2C command, device enters Host mode. In this case, when ICHG_[1:4] are all 1, charge current is decided by external resistor, so is the ITERM register setting valid? or does the taper current become 10% of charge current when charge current is set by external resistor?

In datasheet P.35, it is written as the following,

Termination threshold voltage offset is 50mA. The default termination current is 50mA if the charge is selected from I2C. Otherwise,
termination is set to 10% of ICHG in external I_set mode with +/-10% accuracy.

I think the above text has misdescription, and I think the following text is correct. Is my idea right?

Termination threshold current offset is 50mA. The default termination current is 50mA if the charge current is selected from I2C. Otherwise,
termination is set to 10% of ICHG in external I_set mode with +/-10% accuracy.

  • In standalone mode or host mode with charge current set by the external ISET resistor, termination current is 10% of the charge current. In host mode when the charge current is set to an internal numeric value per the I2C register, the termination current is controlled by its I2C register with minimum value of 50 mA.
