TPS65950: NiMH cells

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65950

Hi Champs,

Can you please help me with a customer inquiry for the TPS65950; can this device be configured for a NiMH battery charging solution.

Customer wants to use three AA sized cells in series so that would be a nominal 3.6V ~2400mAh battery source.  The datasheet of a possible battery that we will use is attached.

This is very close to the Lithium nominal voltage of 3.7v.  It appears the TI PMIC charging interface can do constant current charging and also monitor temperature.

Minimum requirement is that we can do a trickle charge of about 240mA for 16 hrs at 20C.  Ideally we would also like to be able to configure things for faster charging however in order to do this we need to be able to detect a small voltage dip or rate change.

I think the biggest question would be can the charge sequence be changed and is it configurable enough to do NiMH charging?  This basically a programmable constant current with the ability to determine charge termination through fine voltage and temperature measurements.

Thanks for your help!
