BQ24004 won’t charging

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24004

Hi team,

My customer have test the BQ24004 today and find out some issue. The datasheet state the operating input voltage could accept from 8.4V to 10V.

However, they feed in the 8.6V input voltage, the BQ24004 won’t charging the battery (battery voltage is 7.8V).

BQ24004 setting:

  1. VSEL: low
  2. Rsns: 0.2ohm 1%, 0.25W.

What setting do we need to check for this issue?

Many thanks.

Regards,

Prescott

  • Hello Prescott,

Has your customer tried different input voltages? Was there a input voltage with which the IC was charging normally? I want to make sure this is isolated to the problem of input instead of anything else. Can you share the schematic?

    Thanks,

    Wenjia

  • Hi Wenjia,

    Please refer the schematic below.

Actually, we have try to sweep the input voltage from 8V to 9.5V. When input voltage is above the 8.6V, we could measure the charging current from battery. (the setting for our product is 0.5A).

    Please help on this.

    Thanks,

    Prescott

  • I found on pg# 3 the datasheet the VCC UVLO has a typical of 8.66V under which the IC will shut down. I will order an EVM and verify it. If it is the case then the input range on datasheet needs to be changed.

    Thanks,
    Wenjia
  • Hello, we are having the same trouble, our bq24004 doesn`t work. We have followed your datasheet and minimal configuration and schematics, using a maximun of 8,4V and we want 1A of charge ( Vsel:High, Rsense:0.1Ohm). We are supplying the battery with 9V and nothing happens. The Led Output is HIGH, like if its charged, not conected or time-up. ( None of this cases is true).

What can we check in order to make it work?
    Thank you.
