LMG5200 DC-DC Boost Design [M] NE

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMG5200

I'd like to use the LMG5200 in a dc-dc BOOST configuration, 12VDC from a POLA for VIN to 30VDC 4A output.  The LMG5200EVM User Guide states that it can be used in this configuration, but I am not finding any documentation for how to actually set it up in this manner.  Where can I find this information.  Do we have a design tool that will assist in various configurations and conditions?

  • The LMG5200 is a half bridge power module so it is able to be both switches of a synchronous boost converter when it functions as SW and D as the Figure 1 schematic on page one of this app note shows.  Vin on the LMG5200 will be attached to Vout on the schematic and SW on the LMG5200 will be attached to the node that L, SW and D share on the schematic.

Please note that In this configuration the top device will freewheel the inductor current whether you apply a gate signal to it or not, and it is highly recommended that you turn the top device on when it is conducting to eliminate the significant third quadrant conduction loss.
