Battery protector chip with high working environment temperature

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76930

The functions needed mainly for over discharge and short circuit protection under high environment temperature.

Is there a battery protector chip with working environment temperature around 125 celsius degree?

Thanks

  • Hi Jian,

We don't have a device that can support 125C.

May I ask what is the application for your system?

    Roger

  • It's for a system used in an oil drilling instrument design
  • Device from TI like BQ76930 probably has the feature but temperature is not high enough.
    What's the difference between UCC3958 and BQ76930?
  • BQ76930 or UCC3958 may have the features needed, but temperature is not high enough.
What's the difference between these two products?
  • The UCC3958 is actually obsolete. It or its replacement are single cell protection devices with a built in FET. These will handle a limited voltage at fixed thresholds as shown in the individual datasheet.
The bq76930 is a multi-cell AFE with protection features, it must have a host to set it up beyond the default values and to turn on the FETs to begin operation of the system. The protection limits are selectable within a range in the device registers. The FETs are external to the device and can be sized appropriately for the application. The part can directly control low side FETs with a small to moderate capability, for high side switching and/or high current applications an external FET driver will be required.
Lithium-ion batteries have a limited temperature range, high temperature is typically one of the protections built into battery electronics. While FETs on the battery board and potentially the board itself may get hotter than the cells, typical battery protection ICs will not have a high temperature rating. With the limited battery temperature, if you need your electronics to go to a very high temperature you may need to do something special.
