TPS65950 USB Transceiver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65950

The Beagle Board (www.beagleboard.org) uses TPS65950 as the PMU.  THe TPS695950 also features a USB trasceiver.

The question I am trying to figure out is, why on the BeagleBoard is there an EXTERNAL USB transceiver from SMSC; part number USB3322?  Why not utilize the integrated transceiver of the TPS65950?

The manual is 10MB so I decided not to attach it.  You may download it here à  http://beagleboard.org/  Labeled “System Reference Manual” under Top Resources on the left Side of the page.  Your prompt assistance is much appreciated.

  • Hi Saied,

    Couple points that wil help:

    1. TPS65950 has its own USB 60MHz clk, cannot receive clock.

    2. Also, the two devices are connected on different ports. TPS65950 is connected to port0 which is OTG port. SMSC device is connected to EHCI host port.

I hope this clarifies. Beagleboard system manual should have this information.

    Regards,

    Gandhar.
