On LM2990 package, why is it "TAB is Input"?
(Why isn't it "TAB is GND"?)
Other negative linear reg devices, same pattern.
Please let me know a necessary reason of these device.

Hi Satoshi,
The LM2990 and most Negative Low Dropout Regulators have the TAB internally connected to INPUT (Pin 2), no external connection between the TAB and INPUT pin is required, but having one is ok. Either the TAB, INPUT pin or both can be used as the INPUT connection.
Do NOT connect the thermal TAB to GROUND as this will short INPUT supply to GROUND through the internal lead-frame.
Figure 26 in LM2990 datasheet is incorrect; please see the correct layout guideline below.
