BQ24075 Informations about device usb selection and battery power

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24075

Hi all,

I'm new in this devices and I want to ask some questions.

I've seen that BQ24075 have 2 usb modes(100mA and 500mA) and a wall adapter mode.

- There is a way to create a general mode that is good for USB and Wall adapter?

I explain better, If I set more than 500mA like 700mA, 1A or 1.5A and connect it to a PC-USB port, It can damage it?

- Can BQ24075 power my circuitry when is usb connected? Even if battery is discharged or disconnected?

- In datasheed is explained that BQ24075 signal when battery is fully charged. Can it also indicate battery charge status? Also, can it indicate battery status when is USB unplugged and powered on(when circuit is powered)?

- If the last question answer is negative, there is possibility to integrate a gas gauge to measure charging status during charge and battery charge status during power on? Or there is already a build in device that have BQ24075 and gas gauge functionality?

Thank you.

  • - If you program the ILIM to 800mA but connect a USB-500mA port, then the current will be limited to 500mA and VIN will drop. Vout will not be regulated to 4.5V as the IC will be in dropout.

    - Yes, the IC will power the output as long as you have a valid input power, even without the battery.

    - /CHG will indicate charging in progress and charging done. The voltage of ISET pin can also be used to indicate the charging status. VISET will be regulated to ~2.25V during fast charging and will start to drop once the IC is in CV mode. It will drop to zero once the charging is terminated.

    - The IC cannot indicate the battery voltage and you will need a gauge to read it.

    Thanks,

  • Thank you for your answer.

I ask you again to be sure that I need two device. TI produce a device with BQ24075 functionality with also an integrated Gas gauge?
  • As far as I know we don't have one IC that integrated bq24075 or similar charger and gas gauge into one package.

    Thanks,

  • I was looking in datasheet to find this chip consume but I can't find any reference. I want to ask, if I don't have any USB in attached and all power drain(for example Voltage regulator's) in disable state with a max. 10uA drain, how much current this chip will consume?

Also, should I debounce SYSOFF pin if I use a mechanical switch or it have some kind of debouce/protection inside?

  • The maximum Iq without VIN is 6uA.

You need to always connect high or low to SYSOFF to ensue normal operation.

    Thanks,
