TPS54531 for Vin=20V to Vout=12V

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54531

Dear Sir

Could we use TPS54531 for 20Vin to 12Vout/5A ??

I would like to use TPS54531 for 20Vin to 12Vout/5A

But I use webench to simulation  the result can't generate Iout=5A ,just could be generate 4.5A

I check the test result ,if I use 20Vin to 12Vout/4.5A this condition ,IC TJ will up to 145 degreeC ,It's very hot!!

But I check another device RT8251 ,seems like RT8251 have table list to show it could be done it

  • the problem is that webench uses a very conservative Theta - JA to calculate the junction temperature.  It is based on  a standard JEDEC coupon, that is not thermally optimized for switching power supplies.  This often results in high junction temperatures and prevents webwnch from displaying design results.  with 5 A output in an integrated FET device, you will need to take care with your layout to ensure the junction temperature remains low.  If you want to use webench to generate your design, you should set the ambient temperature to a   lower temperature such as 0 C.  then it can display design results.  Otherwise, there are design equations in the data sheet.
