BQ24295 no output on PMID

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24295

Hello,

We are using the BQ24295, but having issues with it.  We've followed the reference design.  Here is our schematic...

When the battery is plugged in, I have a voltage at the BAT pins, but can't get anything on the PMID output.  Can you tell me some things to look for?

A couple other questions we have.  First, can the chip be run without the external temp sensor?  Also, what do you recommend for handling the D+ and D- pins if there is a second device that requires use of those pins?  Is there a switch you'd recommend?

Thanks for your help

  • Is the following list of conditions true:
BAT above BATLOWV threshold (VBATLOWV set by REG04[1])
    2. VBUS less than BAT+VSLEEP (in sleep mode, i.e. no input power attached)
    3. Boost mode operation is enabled (OTG pin HIGH and REG01[5:4] = 10)
    4. After 30ms delay from boost mode enable
You can size the TS resistors so that the TS voltage stays in the middle of the VHOT and VCOLD threshold voltages. If you only want to disable TS function during boost, REG6 bits 2 and 3 allow you to disable temp sense during boost mode.
Regarding D+/D-, unless you force the detection using I2C, the detection routine only runs for the first 1-2 seconds after input power is applied to the charger. This is compliant with USB BC 1.2 spec. Most customers with whom I have dealt do not have comms problems and do not use a switch.
