UCD9248 Start up Issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD9248

Hi,

We are working on a board with total of 8 UCD9248 controllers.

We have no issue to communicate with the devices through TI USB-GPIO adapter.

By setting the ONOFF CONFIG to Always Converting and also rely on the turn on dependencies, we actually manage to get the power rails start up automatically when 12V power is applied. However, this successful condition only happens when the TI USB-GPIO adapter is connected between the board and PC.

Once the adapter is unplugged, then power rails voltage will drop /  kind of disabled, even 12V power is still ON and the power rails are up and running correctly before this.

Attached the project xml file for one of the module.

Please help us if you have any suggestion/solution.

Thanks.

  • Elaine,

When USB_GPIO adapter is connected, but do not open Fusion GUI, can the rails start?

Also, please open UCD3xxx/UCD9xxx Device GUI. Click "DEVICE ID" and see if the Device GUI can find the device. If not, click "Scan Device in ROM Mode", and see if the Device GUI can find the device in ROM mode. Please let me know the result.

    Thanks,
    Zhiyuan
  • Hi Zhiyuan,

    Thanks for your reply.

The rails can start as long as the adapter is connected, even without open the Fusion GUI.

The Device GUI is able to find all the DeviceID. Please find the attached screenshot.

    Regards,

    Elaine

  • Hi Elaine,

The USB-GPIO adapter should not disable the rails if they are Always On.

Is there any rail on your board NOT Always On? My suspicion is that some rail is controlled by CNTL pin. When USB-GPIO adapter is removed, CNTL pin is de-asserted and thus the rail is shut down. Then other rails are shut down due to dependencies. You can also remove the dependencies and see if some rail can stay on after the adapter is removed.

If a rail is shut down by a fault, the fault should be logged. So after the problem happens, you can connect to Fusion GUI and check if there is any Logged Fault under Status page. It will provide some clue.

    Thanks,
    Zhiyuan
