bq24230 / Battery Pack Temperature Monitoring

Hi Team,

Bq24230 datasheet shows the following.
------------------------------------------
(datasheet page.20)
During charging, INTC is sourced to TS and the voltage at TS is continuously monitored.
------------------------------------------
Does it mean bq24230 doesn't monitor the battery pack temparature before charging start?

Best Regards,
Yaita / Japan disty

  • As soon as the valid VIN is applied, the TS will monitor the battery pack temperature. If the temp is outside of the operating range, the charging won't start.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Wenjia-san,

Thanks to your support, my customer considers bq24230 positively.

I would like to have your advice again.
I found the following in bq24230 datasheet.
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    (datasheet page.20-21)
The allowed temperature range for a 103AT-2 type thermistor is 0°C to 50°C. However, the user can increase
the range by adding two external resistors. See Figure 15 for the circuit. The values for Rs and Rp are calculated
    using the following equations:
RHOT and RCOLD are the thermistor resistance at the desired hot and cold temperatures, respectively. Note
that the temperature window cannot be tightened more than using on the thermistor connected to TS, it can only
    be extended.
    -----------------------------------------------------------
My customer wants the temperature window be tightened in terms of safety design.
Is there any solution for bq24230?

If answer is no, I would also like to know which device fulfills the requirement.

    Best Regards,
    Yaita

  • Yaita-san,

I don't think any of our charger can support this. It may be realized by adding extra external comparator and then use it to control /CE pin.

    Thanks,
