What happens when input can't supply load current using BQ40Z60?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z60

Hi,

I'm planning to use BQ40Z60 to charge 4-cell Li-Ion batteries.

There will be DC/DC at the input of BQ40Z60 to regulate voltage to stay above 16.8V.

However, to keep the voltage above 16.8V, DC/DC will limit current draw from BQ40Z60.

My question is that, if maximum input current is below desired load current, is BQ4Z60 capable of supplying insufficient amount out from the battery?

For instance, if max. input current is 1A and system requries 2A, can BQ40Z60 take 1A out from the battery?

Thanks,

Keewan

  • Keewan,
The bq40z60 has an NVDC charger, so the charging voltage will be adjusted up as the battery stack charges. It will not output 16.8V continuously. The battery will supply current to the load, if the load exceeds the charger current.
